Spring Break Reset – DIY Recipes for Mind & Body

Written By: Robin Lander

With the spring equinox just around the corner, it’s a time of emerging ideas, new growth, and a focus on well-being. Bees are buzzing, birds are singing, and fragrant flowers are beginning to bloom along with colorful dreams of leisurely getaways and restful timeouts. Spring breaks provide a period of mental and physical pause, helping us recharge and return to our routines with renewed energy. Big vacation or cozy staycation, we’ve put together a few DIY recipes and tips to help you get ready for a rejuvenating break and a fresh new season.

Before You Go

Start your spring break prep with a beautifying body and massage oil for revitalizing legs and moisturizing skin. Cypress and Grapefruit essential oils are renowned in aromatherapy and cosmetics for their uplifting aromas and astringent, clarifying effects that help to get things moving and improve the appearance of congested skin.

Cypress Leaf & Pink Grapefruit Leg Massage Oil:

  • 1 oz Sunflower Oil - Organic
  • 1 oz Jojoba Oil, Golden - Organic
  • 10 drops Grapefruit, Pink essential oil
  • 8 drops Cypress Leaf - Organic essential oil
  • 8 drops Lemon - Organic essential oil
  • 2 drops Geranium, Rose essential oil
  • 2 drops Juniper Berry - Organic essential oil
  • Instructions: Blend all ingredients in a 2oz Amber Glass Bottle. Massage into legs daily, starting at the ankle and working upward to the hips. This blend can also be applied over the arms and torso. For best results, apply to damp skin after bathing.

    En Route

Long flight ahead? DIY personal aromatherapy inhalers provide discreet and instant access to your favorite aromas on-the-go, without packing any liquids! Here are a few of our favorite inhaler formulas to keep close at hand during your journey:

  • Instructions: Drop a piece of a cotton ball inside a ¼ oz Amber Glass Bottle. Add your favorite essential oil blend (10-15 drops total) to the bottle so that it is fully absorbed by the cotton inside. Cap and label the bottle and pack it in your carry-on bag. To use, open the bottle, hold it under your nose and breathe slowly and deeply 2-3 times. Repeat every 2 hours as desired.

    Arrival

Extended travel times can leave skin feeling parched and tired. Keep a 2oz bottle of one of our Organic Hydrosols in your carry-on to spritz your skin upon arrival. These are our top picks:

  • Cucumber Hydrosol Organic - soften and condition with this fresh garden favorite.
  • Neroli Hydrosol Organic - a cooling, astringent lift to tonify and elevate.
  • Rose Hydrosol Organic - help skin retain moisture in dry environments.
  • Blue Chamomile Hydrosol Organic - keep things cool while traveling with children.
  • After-Sun

Sunny days and blissful breezes are not always gentle on the skin. We love this recipe for application on over-exposed skin after a long day of outdoor play.

    After-Sun Cooling Lavender Spray:

  • 1 oz Lavender Hydrosol - Organic
  • 1 oz Aloe Vera Gel
  • 6 drops Lavender, France - Organic
  • 6 drops Tansy, Blue - Organic
  • Instructions: Add ingredients to a 2oz Amber Glass Bottle with Spray Top and shake well to combine. Spray into hand and apply to the skin 1-2 times a day, avoiding the eye area. For a delightfully cool experience, keep the bottle in the refrigerator.

    Early Riser

If late nights have taken a toll, set your sights on our nourishing Cucumber Seed Oil.  Similar to cucumber slices placed over the eyes, a few drops of the oil can be applied around the eye area to improve the appearance of puffiness. And if your tummy isnt feeling quite right, smelling 1-2 drops of Ginger, Fresh Organic essential oil from a tissue may help get things settled.

We wish it wasn’t so, but the truth is well known: Prolonged and cumulative UV exposure can greatly impact our skin’s appearance. Too much time spent unprotected out in the elements can contribute to reduced moisture and elasticity, dark spots, rough texture, and diminished glow.
