Our lively organic Lemon essential oil is the epitome of citrus with its intensely-fresh peel aroma and zesty, tangy/tart top note – sure to lift the spirits and perfect for composing introductory/top notes in natural perfumery. Like most citrus peel oils, limonene is the dominant molecule in Lemon oil, with supporting roles by a tiny minority of refreshing terpenoid volatiles that lend a tangy/tart bite to this aroma.
Citrus limon is native to Asia and is thought to be a hybrid of citron (C. medica) and pomelo (C. maxima).[1] The fresh, optimistic aroma is instantly recognizable, like seeing a familiar face in a crowd of strangers. These very personal associations may create impressions that last a lifetime and influence use. The aroma of Lemon is widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and household products.[2] It is wonderful to use in a diffuser while studying or to smell during long drives. Please use Lemon oil on the skin with caution and in low dilution due to the phototoxic effect of citrus oils; cold pressed citrus oils, such as lemon, tend to have a higher risk of phototoxicity than steam distilled citrus oils.
