Green Aromas – Enlivening Essences of Freshness and Foliage

Written By: Robin Lander

In perfumery, the Green Aroma family refers to essences that smell fresh, crisp, leafy and ‘alive.’ Green aromas evoke a sense of juicy new growth and renewal often associated with spring, nature, and vitality. Resembling crushed green foliage, freshly cut stems, herbaceous leaves, garden vegetables and unripe fruit, Green aromas offer the clean, invigorating, and uplifting qualities of being enveloped in a lush green environment.

When used in fragrance compositions, Green aromas can bring a natural, airy, dewy character while keeping the overall aroma from becoming too sweet or heavy. With a verdant brightness and sharper energy, they are most often utilized in chypre, fougère, and citrus perfumes, as well as modern aquatic, floral, and fresh compositions. Lets highlight some key ingredients in the Green aroma family and how to use them in your aromatic creations.
