Product Overview

Unlike the synthetic Amber perfumes that are commonly sold, Fossilized Amber Oil has a completely different aromatic profile. The extraction process yields a dark, viscous oil with smoky, resinous, leathery, tar-like, woody-dry notes and hints of Pine and balsamic overtones. The aroma is not sweet at all and because of this it is not often used as the main note in a perfume unless modified with other aromatic oils.

While there are several sources for Amber throughout the world, Eden Botanicals is the sole source in North America for this rare form of Fossilized Amber Oil. Compared to the oil extracted from Baltic Amber, our Fossilized Amber Oil is extracted from 35-million-year-old Himalayan fossilized tree resin.[1] Unlike our oils from living plants, there is no essential oil that can be directly obtained from the fossilized resin. Instead, the oil comes from a process called “dry distillation” whereby the Amber resin is processed over high heat until an oily substance is obtained.[2]

When used in trace amounts, Fossilized Amber provides unique and interesting nuances in natural perfumes. It dissolves in both 190 proof alcohol and fixed oils and makes an excellent fixative and base note. For a pre-blended and easy to use dilution of this oil, please see our Amber Oil, Fossilized - 5%.

Get the full strength, not the dilution

Rating

This has depth! I kept reading about a Amber and notes and from the dilution that I had bought for before I could not make the connection. Yes it is a long lazy aroma . It will be reminiscent of plastics or gasoline or rather they are reminiscent of it because this came from but they really don’t have anything to do with each other. There are no harsh notes there are no top notes. This starts as an under smell, a base note that is almost indistinguishable from the air we breathe and then it opens up into something low and deep .

Great long-lasting

Rating

I believe this is what I bought some years ago. I'm ordering just a sample to make sure. If it is the same it is amazing. I've had mine for maybe 10 years and it still is sweet and smoky and very strong. I hope it's the same!

Long-lasting and unique

Rating

Amber Oil is a truly remarkable and somewhat bizarre scent. A quick clarification: this is actual amber, it does NOT smell like the note that's referred to as "Amber" in perfumery. "Amber" as a note is powdery and balsamic, often made out of vanilla, labdanum, etc. This on the other hand is actual amber which comes from fossilized tree sap and is absolutely nothing like the familiar note. It lasts forever and right at the start it smells like pine, synthetic leather, a little bit of smoke and a bit like gasoline. It's in-your-face, no subtlety whatsoever. Once things start to fade a bit, the smokey, leathery, piney qualities remain and you can smell it for hours and hours. I have yet to actually use it in a blend because I'm terrified of it, yet it's also awe-inspiring and I think I will be experimenting with it more going forward. This is not a scent to miss.

A jurassic journey

Rating

I ordered this for my father who is a geologist, I could not resist opening it myself to see what it was like, I soon found myself wishing I had bought two. The smell is very earthy , almost like walking close to the surface of a mountain or going behind a waterfall . It gave me a sense of timelessness and deep wisdom that I hoped would never fade. I would recommend wearing this oil closer to the head for example on the temples because its very subtle, once you do smell it you will realize that sometimes the more quiet scents say the most.

Mastic

Rating

I'm sure many who are familiar with it would agree, it smells like mastic. When diluted it reveals that beautiful amber note common in fragrances.
