Product Overview

Our premium Sandalwood from Australia has a little lighter character than a typical Sandalwood essential oil and displays warm, fresh notes and deeper, woodier undertones than our New Caledonian Sandalwood oils. Sandalwood is beloved for its sweet, warm, woody and rich aroma and is a world-renowned and highly desired ingredient in body care, skin care, natural perfumes, and incense for its sensual qualities and incomparable, calming fragrance.

In Australia, Sandalwood (including its lumber, seed oil, nuts and powder) has been used for fodder, fuel and fragrance, in aboriginal art, and in religious and spiritual practices for thousands of years. Santalum spicatum is native to Western Australia, where the Forests Products Commission (FPC) manages the sustainable harvesting of Sandalwood forests.

The Sandalwood essential oil most recognized is distilled from Santalum album in the Mysore region of India. It is an alarming fact that Mysore Sandalwood has endured severe population decline and genetic impoverishment (i.e., become nearly extinct) due to decades of over-harvesting, mismanagement of forests and illegal poaching – all driven by lucrative global demand. This is good news and bad news. The bad news is that high value plus harvesting restrictions are powerful incentives for the development of synthetics and the routine adulteration of genuine Sandalwood oils.[1] The good news is that this near tragedy created a new industry in other regions for cultivating various species of Sandalwood (including S. spicatum) using more sustainable practices – a successful strategy for redirecting market pressure away from this precious botanical. Sandalwood, an exquisitely fragrant and praiseworthy tree, like the majestic elephant, has been nearly loved to death. May your usage of Sandalwood be mindful, and may you be present in the magnificence of every application.

Eden Botanicals sources a wide variety of sustainably harvested Santalum species from reputable suppliers in different geographical regions that we are sure will enchant and delight even the most discriminating Sandalwood lovers and natural perfumers. Sandalwood oil is beneficial in targeted skincare preparations and facial serums to improve the appearance of aging, dry, or congested skin. The divine aroma inspires an ambiance of peaceful contemplation and lends elevating and centering properties to meditation and incense blends.

AMAZING!! WOW!

Rating

I thought this would smell kinda sharp or weird compared to all the other sandalwoods I have ever smelled. THIS is sexy, sweet, buttery and DELICIOUS! i never thought I would be so crazy for an essential oil. WOW! I don't think this one can be beat. I will order the new calendonia in the future to compare, but in my opinion it doesn't get smoother or better than this. The reason I bought this is because it was the cheapest, and boy was i surprised by how awesome it smelled.

It's actually ok

Rating

The very first time I sampled Australian Sandalwood was from Pafrums R**** and it smelled HORRIBLE. My first thought was this is NOT sandalwood at all. Having said that, I was very wary to sample it again from Eden's. However, I finally broke down and said "why not? it's just a sample". Upon trying it, I was suprised because it smelled absolutely nothing like the gross sample I first tried. This one actually isn't half bad, though nowhere near being as good as the others. This Australian Sandalwood actually smells a lot like Amyris, minus the "campfire" nuance that the latter has upon initial smell. In fact, you could probably use Amyris as a cheaper (albeit more mild) substitute for this. My overall thoughts is that this one is pretty ok. It's nowhere near as bad as I expected and it's definitely not as bad as some reviewers made it out to be elsewhere on this site. It has some of that dry powdery sandalwood nuance but lacks the other elements that makes sandalwood so special, and therefore I wouldn't count on it as a replacement for more expensive traditional Sandalwood types, but if you can see it for what it is, you may find it useful.

Nice tenacity

Rating

For my first time buying a sandalwood oil, I was really excited. The price looked good, and I read it was a nice alternative to the more pricy stuff. So when it came, it was going to be mixed with other things. Smelling it out of the sampler, I knew I had to spend more for the other sandalwoods. The top note was just unattractive, I guess. Its therapy use may be another story. Or even in blends I bet it's wonderful. I myself just hesitate as a note or single oil scent. Sorry :-/ it's chemistry is really nice though, willing to try another sample though. Sometimes that's all it takes. The sample I had ended being mixed with patchouli, Vetiver, Peru balsam, ylang ylang complete fine, myrrh, and orris butter. This blend did how ever stick to my skin for hours and lasted a long time.

Disappointing - Sandalwood aroma lacking

Rating

Ordered the Australian premium for use in formulating body lotion. Prepared a 12 oz batch of lotion and used 30 drops of the sandalwood oil as per the recipe. Didn't detect even a faint aroma in the finished product.
