Product Overview

Our Organic Rose de Mai Extract is softer and gentler than Rose de Mai Absolute and is extracted using benign solvents (no hexane) which renders the final extract Certified Organic (USDA, NOP). This oil is completely mobile and has an astounding and exquisite aroma! Because it is certified organic, our Rose de Mai Organic Extract is ideal for aromatherapy applications as well as fine natural perfumery. However, its best use may very well be for cosmetic/personal care applications as well as esoteric anointing and the like. For perfumery purposes, it does not have the depth of aroma that is found in Rose Absolutes and Rose Ottos, however, its gentle aromatic character does not diminish its aromatherapy and skincare benefits. PLEASE NOTE: This extract is soluble in fixed oils only. It is not soluble in alcohol or alcohol-based perfumes.

R. centifolia (the ‘hundred-petaled rose’) is known as Rose de Mai in reference to the month May when it generally blooms, as well as ‘the painter’s rose’ because its large, globular flowers are the featured rose in many works of the early masters. With their multi-petaled intricacy, it is no surprise that Rose essential oils and absolutes are among plant essences with the most chemical complexity. And while many of the more than 400 chemical constituents[1] of Rosa centifolia and R. damascena are present in mere trace amounts, they contribute immensely to the rich and nuanced fragrance we know as Rose.

“For its perfume, the Rose reigns supreme amongst the flowers of the world.”[2] Known as the oil of love, the comforting and inspiring aroma of Rose oil is said to encourage the metaphorical “opening of the heart.” It is especially esteemed for promoting spiritual wellbeing, creating a peaceful ambiance, and as an excellent companion to meditation practices.

Soft grass and feelings of love

Rating

Rose de Mai....if you're feeling tense and angry at the world, run to this scent now. Suddenly not only will you feel better but you'll feel like hugging people and telling them that everything's gonna be OK. It actually fills my heart with such love that I get a little teary (seriously, and I'm a guy!) and I think of summer days picking blueberries and rhubarb in my grandmother's backyard and then just plopping onto the grass and dozing off. This Rose de Mai does, in fact, have a grassy herbaceous note but the rose smell never leaves so don't worry about it getting too grassy. Strangely enough my grandmother didn't even have roses but this Rose de Mai evokes childhood memories and innocent love – the kind of love that is gentle, aware and compassionate.

Just something more . . . .

Rating

I ordered samples of many of Eden's rose oils to decide what I would like best for my work. This was by far my favorite. I can't put my finger on it, but this oil has an extra note, something that reminds me of sunlit days and happy times as a child. It's not an overbearing in-your-face rose, but a gentle note that supports and reassures, while maintaining the best of a rose essence. Divine!
