Product Overview

Our Orange Blossom Absolute from Egypt has an intense, indole-rich, warm, deep, extremely sweet yet non-cloying citrus floral aroma of excellent tenacity that deepens in the drydown; a subtle bitter-green backnote lends aliveness. Particularly when well diluted, Orange Blossom quickly unfolds with incredibly seductive floral notes. It provides a warm floral heart note and adds opulence and depth when paired with the lighter Neroli (historical name for distilled Orange Blossom essential oil). Orange Blossom absolute is a perfumer's specialty oil; intense and quite potent even in low concentrations, this oil is perfect for exotic and ambery scents, and in lending character and depth with amazing tenacity.

Orange Blossom absolute is but one expression of the pure white blossoms of Citrus aurantium var amara, the Bitter Orange tree, a resilient evergreen of the Rutaceae family. Although these are the same flowers that are used to distill Neroli essential oil, Neroli and solvent extracted Orange Blossom absolute are produced using very different processes, rendering fragrance materials with somewhat different aromas and textures. The absolute has a powerful aroma and is more viscous while the essential oil is lighter in color and carries a more delicate aroma. Orange Blossom absolute is very popular for use as a fixative in fine natural perfumery and for the way it perfectly complements other citrus notes, florals, spices and woods.

The aroma of Orange Blossom absolute is greatly defined by the presence of the aromatically sultry, erotic and ‘animalic’ indole. The presence of indole, in stark contrast with the spring maiden and bridal imagery of this pure white flower, perfectly illustrates the blurred lines between virgin beauty and sexy siren.[1] Its popularity is legendary – approximately 12% of all modern quality perfumes contain Orange Blossom absolute.[2] Low yield and labor-intensive harvesting methods make Orange Blossom a very costly endeavor – only approximately 1 kilo of absolute is extracted from 1,000 kilos of freshly harvested flowers![3]

True beauty

Rating

If you are not overly fond of the this Orange Blossom Absolute then try the Orange Blossom Abs - Fine which has significantly more floral sweetness and is more "orangeish." A synthetic accord can't touch either of these in my opinion. Another alternative would be Eden's Morrocan Neroli - organic which wears nicely sweet and is every bit as beautiful in its own right.

Great for a few moments

Rating

I always hate to disagree with other reviewers who truly enjoy a product, but this must not be the scent for me. The first few moments are very nice. It's a floral smell that I could wear just on its own, even as a man in his 20s, it just plain smells good. Unfortunately in a blend, after those first few minutes pass, the remainder of the scent always tends to turn toward the balsamic, or slightly cinnamon-like smell. It's truly bizarre but it's not just me. I asked others to smell my wrist and asked "What do you smell?" and they also said, after a few moments of thought, that it was similar to cinnamon, but not quite. I'm likely going to go synthetic in the future if I want that floral note at the beginning.

I can't stop smelling this!

Rating

While diluting this absolute to use in an Egyptian Queen blend, I got some on my fingers. A tiny dap from fingers to the wrist, washed my hands (so sad to lose even a smidgen!), and then ALL day.... rich, warm, floral that is exotic, intoxicating. By itself it is enough to wear and had my husband sniffing my wrist. "Ummmm Yummm. Oh my goddess, you smell edible!" (Down boy). The tenacity of this oil, the strength of it, will take any blend you are creating and elevate it to an other worldly experience. As it says in the scent notes, a little goes a long way. Even after diluting 50%, a few drops blending with Jasmine, Rose, Neroli, Sandalwood, Amber, Frankincense and Elemii immediately creates a scent that is truly Queen worthy across the ages. I can't wait to see what is revealed as it sits for a few days.

Extremely sensual!

Rating

This is EXTREMELY seductive! I have read reviews about orange blossom and just couldn't wait to try it. However, I was completely surprised upon first smelling this. It almost smells as if an erotic moment is about to take place. Dark, citrus-musky, almost smokey. To me this surpasses Jasmine in it's sensuality. After Sandalwood, this is my favorite note. Will definitely be stocking up on this!

Decadent

Rating

I have always loved Neroli as it reminds me of innocence and childhood. This Orange Blossom is just the opposite . . . it is sultry, sensuous and decadent. When diluted, the scent is sooo wonderful and delicious. As a blend, Neroli and Orange Blossom make a simple yet beautiful white floral perfume. Maybe add a little amber or even cocoa to make in a bit sinful.
