Product Overview

Our Black Spruce Absolute has an intense, radiant, honeyed, powerful evergreen aroma with notes of dried fruit and leather that deepen in the richly balsamic, long drydown. An added bonus – it is completely soluble in 190 proof alcohol and fixed carrier oils. Black Spruce absolute is found in numerous forest accords and, as with other conifer absolutes, is used to impart fixative value and grounding aromatic nuances.

Many are familiar with Black Spruce as a popular holiday tree. However, its most noble residency is within the biome known as the taiga – the earth's largest biome aside from its oceans – otherwise known as the Boreal or coniferous snow forest. Most of the essential oil and absolute production of Picea mariana in Canada is sustainably produced from branches cut to promote vigorous growth of the tree. New trees are planted to replace mature trees that are felled, the branches of which are again collected for oil production. Logging is strictly regulated by the Canadian government and forest management engineers to ensure healthy forests for generations to come.[1]

Alongside other needle aromas like Fir and Pine, Black Spruce shares an invigorating fragrance and the remarkable energetics of the great conifers of the world. At the same time, the aroma also has restorative and refreshing qualities, much in the same way a walk in a tranquil forest may bring about inner peace and a revived spirit.
