Product Overview

We are excited to offer the unique and unusual organic Lavender Seville, a subspecies of Lavandula stoechas. This essential oil's aroma differentiates markedly from that of the typical aroma of Lavender oils. Seville Lavender's aroma has exquisite sweet apricot/fig/dried fruit notes carried on cognac-like vapors with leather, dried fruit and deep lavender notes in the long drydown. The color alone may be very appealing for perfumers because it is lighter in color than the absolute of Lavender Seville.

Lavandula stoechas subsp. luisieri plants are found mainly in the southwest corner of Spain and are widely seen throughout Portugal. They are often found with L. viridis, producing occasional hybrids. Two chemotypes of L. stoechas subsp. luisieri occur, with an unidentified ester as their main component.[1] The analysis shows there is no camphor or fenchone found in the more common L. stoechas varieties, but it does contain a small amount of verbenone accounting for a distinct ketonic note.[2] There is also limonene (lemony scent), cubebol, and irregular esters and other compounds unique to L. luisieri.[3]

What an incredible scent!

Rating

This oil is not at all a typical lavender. It is dark, brooding, unisex, and bold. Useful in just about everything, but most especially with gothic or masculine scents. I’ve had the most success pairing it with leathery oils like vetiver or nagarmotha. Adding a few drops of vanilla absolute, orris butter, or cardamom really rounds out the scent and bring to light it’s best qualities. The fruity aspect can be brought out by the addition of osmanthus and a bit of green cognac brings out its boozy qualities. Whichever way you decide to blend this oil, it stands out with a bold, unique voice. Your customers may not recognize the note as lavender, but they are sure to fall in love with it.

Excellent / But do not expect lavender

Rating

"atypical" is correct, I think people will really, really be surprised by this. I love it, but it was almost a shock how non-lavender-y this is. A whole bunch of leather, and dried fruit. You will find ways to use this, but maybe not in a way where you or your customer is looking for a classic, iconic, familiar lavender. It is a complex, almost new thing.

Not Your typical Lavender at all! In my opinion it smells like fish. I was disappointed. I absolutely love Eden. Disappointed. From the Oils Room: Thank you for writing. You are correct to state that this is not a typical Lavender oil. We do mention in our description that this oil is from a subspecies of Lavandula stoechas, and our apologies for not making it clearer that its aroma is quite different from the aroma typical of the Lavender species Lavandula angustifolia. We find that this oil is yet another wonderful example of how nature has a way of making sure we have a wide variety, even among Lavender oils! We hope that you will give Seville Lavender another chance.

Love it

I just received this lovely oil and can't wait to blend it with Apricot and Coumarin. I smell a hint of leather which I intend to explore further. I diffused the lavender in my office with an anxious client and she reported feeling relaxed inhaling the aroma paired with guided imagery and relaxation exercise. I plan to order more.
