Written By: Robin Lander

As the air turns crisp and leaves begin to change, our skin often craves a little extra care. Look no further, our Pumpkin Seed Oil - Organic is the perfect carrier oil to feature in your seasonal formulations. Not only does it naturally embody the cozy, nurturing vibe for fall, but its impressive skin benefits and smooth, luxurious texture make it a standout ingredient for soft, glowing skin.

Pumpkin Seed Oil’s warm, mildly nutty aroma pairs beautifully with spice, citrus, and gourmand essential oils making it ideal for limited-edition launches or comforting self-care blends. Read on to discover its many benefits and get our recipe for a Spiced Pumpkin Seed Body Oil.

Why Pumpkin Seed Oil is Your Autumn Ally

Cold-pressed from the seeds of the pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) and unrefined, this velvety amber-green oil is packed with skin-loving nutrients:

  • Beneficial Fatty Acids (Linoleic and Oleic): provide moisturizing and emollient properties, softening mature, dry, or congested skin while refining tone and texture.
  • Vitamin E, Antioxidants, and Carotenoids: help brighten the complexion and improve the appearance of dark spots and elasticity.
  • Phytosterols and Palmitic Acid: help support the skins protective barrier against moisture loss and impurities.
  • Formulating with Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin Seed Oil’s light to medium-weight texture conditions skin without leaving a greasy feel, making it an excellent choice for body oils and lotions, hand creams, facial serums, scalp and hair oils, soaps and cleansers, and seasonal specialty products.

While Pumpkin Seed Oil feels wonderfully smooth when applied directly on thirsty skin, it can be paired with other carrier oils to dial in the texture you want:

  • For a dryer, silkier feel, blend it with carriers like Sunflower Oil - Organic or Jojoba Oil, Golden Organic.
  • For a richer, creamier touch, combine it with carriers such as Strawberry Seed Oil - Organic or Cranberry Seed Oil Organic.
  • Ready to get creative? Here’s our recipe for a warming and invigorating body oil that will leave your skin soft, hydrated, and deliciously fragrant.

    Spiced Pumpkin Seed Body Oil

    Materials:

1 oz. glass bottle with pump

1 oz. Pumpkin Seed Oil - Organic (for a lighter feel, use ½ oz. Pumpkin Seed Oil and ½ oz. Fractionated Coconut Oil - Organic)

1 drop Cinnamon Bark - Organic

1 drop Clove Bud - Organic

    3 drops Nutmeg

    3 drops Cardamom - Organic

    5 drops Ginger CO2 Organic

3 drops Vanilla CO2 Organic (may need gentle warming to liquify)

    Directions:

Set the 1 oz. bottle on a paper towel to absorb any spills. Add the carrier oils, followed by the essential oils. Twist on the pump top and gently shake to combine. For best aromatic results, allow some time (1-3 days) for the blend to harmonize and mature before using.

    To Use:

Pump a small amount of the blend into your hand and gently massage into skin. Body oils feel best when applied on damp skin, such as after bathing. Note: This blend may feel warming when first applied to the skin. For sensitive skin, consider diluting the essential oils in 2 oz. of carrier oil rather than 1 oz.

    Notes of Caution:

Avoid use during pregnancy, nursing, and on young children. Avoid applying to the face, near the eye area or mucous membranes. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin. Before using any essential oil, please see all Safety Considerations on the left side of the product page. If you have any medical conditions or are on medication, please consult with your physician before using essential oils.

    Final Tips for Formulators

Pumpkin Seed Oil has moderate shelf stability but can certainly benefit from the addition of antioxidants like our Vitamin E Oil - Bioxan ® SF or Rosemary Antioxidant CO2 - Organic to help extend freshness. Store finished formulations in amber or opaque packaging to help preserve its beautiful color and nutrients.

Pumpkin Seed Oil provides both the technical functionality and the marketing appeal you want for your fall formulations. With its perfect combination of nourishment, medium-weight texture, and compatibility with warm spice accords, it will help you craft effective and beautiful blends for your seasonal creations or any time of year.
