Product Overview

Our organic Litsea Cubeba (also known as May Chang) has an intense, clean, fresh, sweet-green, lemon-like aroma with light woody-floral undertones – and the aroma lasts for more than 36 hours on a scent strip with a soft, uniform sweet-fruity dry down. Although Litsea Cubeba is a lesser-known essential oil in the modern aromatherapy and perfumery worlds, after sampling this very fine oil, we could not let this aromatic ray of sunshine go unnoticed – we have to extol its beauty.

Litsea Cubeba essential oil is characterized by its high citral content (up to 85%)[1] which accounts for its dominant lemony aroma. It was first distilled in the early 1950s from little berries (fruits) that grow on small tropical evergreen trees native to China, Indonesia and other parts of eastern Asia.[2]

The aroma of Litsea Cubeba is delightful for lifting and calming the spirit. It works wonders in skin care, particularly for oily and congested skin. Soap makers and candle crafters may appreciate the clean, long-lasting aroma and finer lemony complexity of Litsea as an alternative to Lemon, Lemongrass, Melissa, or Lemon Verbena.

smells like lemongrass but with a twist

Rating

it smells like lemongrass, but it has a slightly more lemon scent and a woody undertone. Not as expected, but still good.

Better than Lemongrass

Rating

I tried this one based on the description provided, and it ended up being one of my favorites from the order. I also tried yuzu, lime (both expressed and distilled organic) and green cognac. This is much better than the organic distilled lime to me, in how natural litsea seems and by the pleasing, clean, energetic, and citric sweetness. The yuzu is great too. Yuzu is sharper, litsea is sweeter and smoother. It gives me the impression of laying in the partial shade of a lemon tree surrounded by a hay field lined with lemongrass on a hot day. I would rank them litsea in first place, yuzu in close second, expressed lime in third, and organic distilled lime way in the rear, holding a mop. The organic distilled lime reminds me of my days as a janitor.

Caramel bergamot

Rating

Me and my weird comparisons... I may be alone in this, but initially the scent reminded me of bergamot, but sweeter, thicker and a bit less lemony. To me, it smells like bergamot was mixed with caramel to achieve this effect.
