Product Overview

Our Jasmine Sambac Absolute is an extremely beautiful oil for Jasmine lovers, but with a slightly different aroma than Jasminum grandiflorum – it has a fresh, natural greenness compared to our sweeter, more sultry Jasmine absolutes from India and Egypt. Its somewhat green fruity/floral initial aroma is followed by the characteristic rich floral/honey/tea notes that become sweeter in the drydown. Jasmine Sambac is ideal in natural perfumery for a greener, lighter and fresher Jasmine aroma and for perhaps being somewhat more tenacious than Jasminum grandiflorum.[1]

Jasmine has been among the principal ingredients of more than 80% of all quality perfume and a third of all men’s fragrance.[2] Unlike a distilled essential oil, it is solvent extracted so retains the highly fragrant materials that make it perfect for natural perfume. The sensual aroma is exhilarating and playful, and according to Patricia Davis, brings together the fiery dynamism associated with the masculine aspect (yang) and the soft earthiness of the feminine (yin).[3] The uninhibited aroma evokes lightness and joy, setting the stage for physical awareness and imagination. It is no wonder that the flowers, thought to awaken the spiritual nature of intimacy, have been used traditionally in some cultures to decorate the bed of newlyweds. In magical spiritual traditions, Jasmine is used as a devotional anointing oil and is worn for blessings and good luck.[4]

One look at the chemistry of this seductive aroma explains a lot about its sensual appeal. Amid a bouquet of complex flowery esters, including methyl anthranilate, is the highly coveted indole, a molecule found naturally occurring in certain plants and also human pheromones. At very low concentrations, indole smells intensely alluring and floral. Appearing in some of the sweetest blossoms such as Gardenia, Orange Blossom, Champaca, Tuberose, Neroli, Narcissus, Jonquil, and Honeysuckle, perfumers use indolic aromas to bring enticing, hypnotic, or animalic qualities to compositions.

Jasmine vines in full flower have a voluptuous aroma that surrounds and embraces anyone who passes. Indeed, no other floral aroma can compare to Jasmine’s legendary effects. The aroma of Jasmine is said to blend with virtually everything and is an indispensable ingredient for the natural perfumer.

Pure floral

Rating

I dabbed on a touch to test as a direct perfume. Starts out intensely floral, like bruised petals, then settles into something more elegant and sweetly fresh like the jasmine of green tea. Absolutely beautiful.

Stupendous!

Rating

This Jasmine Sambac is the best I've ever smelled. It's so full-bodied that I even think I smell undertones of Linden, Honeysuckle and Gardenia. But like a complex musical chord that makes you think you're hearing notes that actually aren't there, this could also be the case. Who cares – it's the experience that counts. Five stars and more.

Beautiful

This is my favorite of ALL the Jasmine's. I purchased the sampler pack and this one is definitely the softest and sweetest. A true jasmine!

Sweet and spicy

Rating

This is a lovely, complex, intense and intriguing jasmine with what seems to me a sweet water note right up front that settles down into the floral aspect typical of grandiflorum, with a hint of spice. Been comparing the two all day. Not noticing the green aspect at all. I love this jasmine.

Very Carnal

Rating

I would say that this particular Jasmine is a bit naughtier than your standard Jasminum Grandiflorum variety, It's got plenty of indolic muskiness that gives it a very sensual and earthy edge as well as a bright peach or apricot like fruitiness. Plays very nicely with Tobacco absolute, Atlas Cedarwood, and Bergamot.
