Product Overview

Yellow Mandarin essential oil is cold pressed from the peel of partially ripened fruits. Our Yellow Mandarin oil has a light, sweet, zesty and refreshing citrus aroma with tangy, orange-like top notes; its sweetness is similar to that of our Red Mandarin. Its familiar aroma is a real winner with children and is the perfect oil to put in a diffuser or room spray to refresh bed, bath or boudoir. Yellow Mandarin has an unusual citrus aroma that will add brightness and appeal to your natural perfumery compositions.

Originating mainly in south China, Mandarins were introduced to Europe in the early 1800s[1] and were brought from Italy to the United States about 1840-50.[2] According to Steffen Arctander, the fruit developed into the small, ellipsoidal Mandarin in Europe but in the United States, the fruit remained quite similar to the Chinese Mandarin and was renamed Tangerine.[3] Guenther notes that there is a marked difference in both the flavor and aroma between the two, as well as the physical properties and chemical compositions, with soil, climate, location, even cultural conditions and considerable hybridization contributing to the differences.4 For expression of the oil, harvest of the fruit before reaching maturity occurs from late October through the end of November.[5]

Like most citrus peel oils, chemical analysis of the Mandarins reveals a limonene dominance plus nearly a dozen tart, citrusy aldehydes at low concentrations that nonetheless contribute significantly to the overall aroma. One thing that distinguishes the Mandarins from Tangerine oils is a small percentage of methyl-N-methyl anthranilate, a nitrogen compound found more abundantly in the leaf oil that contributes to the calming aroma. The simple cheer and sweet warmth of the Mandarins are a boon to the spirit, making their appearance in mid-winter even more welcome.

Terrible

Rating

The scent is harsh and acidic. Lacks subtlety. Even a small quantity drowns out delicate fragrances.

Incredible

I got a sample of this oil in with my shipment, and I have to purchase a full-size bottle now. It has a subtle, animalic quality to it - like hints of musky civet. Can't wait to start mixing with this lovely oil.

I was so surprised

Rating

Very surprised at the citrus scent having a neroli after smell. Best way I can describe it.. I guess you would call it the dry down..?? much how you would describe an after taste..you have the tangy citrus with a neroli flower behind it..faintly

AMAZING

Rating

Don't think, just get it! If you are a citrus head like I am go ahead and buy this and buy more than a sample size! It's citrusy and has a nice kick of orange blossom in the background. It's citrusy but not in a fresh squeezed orange juice kind of way more like grabbing a fresh mandarin off the tree and a few blossoms with it. Very nice, wish i went with my gut and ordered a larger size.

Wonderful

Rating

I tried a sample of this oil about a year and a half ago because I read a description from a natural perfumer that it was more floral than other citruses. That sample did not seem to support the description although I enjoyed the light citrus scent. This time around I just went for it . . . skipped the sample and purchased. I'm so glad I did! This yellow mandarin is a beautiful citrus floral scent. I haven't had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with it yet but I came back to get more before it sells out. Looks like the secret's out.
