Product Overview

Our organic steam distilled Lemon essential oil has a bright, effervescent, fresh lemon aroma that's softer and not as tart as our cold-pressed Lemon. Like most citrus peel oils, limonene is the dominant molecule in Lemon oil, with supporting roles by a tiny minority of refreshing terpenoid volatiles that lend a zesty bite to this aroma.

This oil, while steam distilled, is not considered bergapten-free (FCF*). Steam distilled Lemon oil does have considerably fewer photosensitizing compounds than cold pressed Lemon (<50 ppm for distilled Lemon vs. 5000 ppm for cold pressed). For comparison, a typical Bergamot FCF contains <15 ppm, so there are still enough photosensitizing elements to merit using discretion if using distilled Lemon in topical applications.[1]

Citrus limon is native to Asia and is thought to be a hybrid of citron (C. medica) and pomelo (C. maxima).[2] The fresh, optimistic aroma is instantly recognizable, like seeing a familiar face in a crowd of strangers. These very personal associations may create impressions that last a lifetime and influence use. The aroma of Lemon is widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and household products.[3] It is wonderful to use in a diffuser while studying or to smell during long drives. Please use Lemon oil on the skin with caution and in low dilution due to the phototoxic effect of citrus oils.

*FCF (furanocoumarin-free) is an acronym that indicates the chemical constituent(s) responsible for extreme sensitization of the skin to sunlight has been removed, in the case of Lemon oil, the specific furanocoumarin being bergapten. This oil, while steam distilled, is not considered bergapten-free.

Great for cat box odor

Rating

We have a 4 month old kitten -- can you guess the rest? I made a room spray mixing this lemon with Everclear, which is 98% alcohol, in a pretty strong solution. After the cat vacates the box, use as a room spray. It neutralizes even the strongest odor.

Use for in household cleaner

Rating

I just had a sample of this and used it in a homemade household cleaning solution. It stood out even though I didn't have much. Worked very well came out with a nice lemon smell. It's kinda strong when you initially smell it but once it's been diluted you get a good lemony smell.
