Product Overview

Our Himalayan Blue Pine essential oil has a strong, crisp, camphoraceous, pine-like aroma with a dry balsamic body and a fresh cooling facet that warms in the dry down. High levels of alpha-pinene (40%) and beta-pinene (23%) contribute to its highly diffusive, uplifting character that formulators will appreciate in personal care products designed to refresh and cleanse, as well as in household care, room sprays, enlivening diffuser blends, and fresh forest and fougère perfumes.

Pinus wallichiana, also known as Bhutan Pine, is an evergreen conifer native to the Himalaya, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush mountain ranges, typically growing at elevations of 6,000-14,000 feet. The tree has become a popular landscaping choice in Europe, often planted in parks and large gardens for its attractive blue-green needles and decorative cones.

Coniferous trees such as Fir, Pine, and Spruce have been widely studied for their dense profusion of cleansing, uplifting constituents and their positive effects on wellbeing. The Japanese practice of “forest bathing” has gained global recognition for its restorative benefits. Whether experienced through a walk in the forest or the aroma of a coniferous essential oil, the sense of rejuvenation these trees inspire is undeniable.

In aromatherapy and cosmetic formulations, Himalayan Blue Pine essential oil is a revitalizing addition to muscle and joint massage oils, chest rubs, clarifying soaps, invigorating scalp oils, aftershaves, and cleansers and serums for oily and congested skin. It refreshes the senses in steams and saunas and is an excellent choice for diffusers, particularly while studying or during winter and seasonal changes.

Perfumers value Pine essential oils for their ability to introduce fresh, balsamic vitality to top note accords, especially in woody, herbaceous, and forest fragrances. Often found in masculine compositions, the aroma pairs beautifully with wood, herb, and citrus notes such as Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Sage, Eucalyptus, Bergamot, and Orange. Pine can also be used to accentuate the brightness of florals like Jasmine and Rose.

Our Himalayan Blue Pine is wild harvested in India where our producer collects needles and twigs for distillation. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species currently assesses Pinus wallichiana as stable and classifies it as ‘Least Concern.’[1] A wonderful choice for sustainable body care!
