Also known as hydrolats, floral waters, herbal waters, or distillates, these hydrating and nourishing waters are highly valued for their delightfully fragrant, skin-loving benefits.
Our hydrosols are steam distilled from fresh, organic plant material, capturing the essence and cellular water of the living plant. Rather than a by-product of essential oil production, our skilled producers distill for the hydrosol and leave out any preservatives to ensure purity and vibrancy. From spritzing directly on the skin to using in skincare formulations, hydrosols are enchanting aromatics with a multitude of uses. Hydrosols Defined
Authentic hydrosols are not to be confused with products made by combining essential oils with plain water. During steam or hydro distillation, heat softens and opens the fresh plant cells, releasing aromatic constituents into the vapor. As the steam that cools and condenses, two products emerge and naturally separate:
Because hydrosols contain only hints of oil-soluble molecules (such as linalool or lavandulyl acetate), they are unlikely to cause skin irritation, making them safe for use with children, elders, and sensitive individuals.
The Aroma of Hydrosols
Hydrosols have their own soft, fresh, and delicate character. With a distinct constituent profile, the aroma of hydrosols differs from the scent of the fresh plant or the essential oil. Like essential oils, each batch of hydrosol carries subtle nuances of aroma reflecting the particular harvest, terrain, and distillation. To properly assess a hydrosol’s aroma, rather than smelling from an open bottle, spray them into the air around you and smell the fine mist, or apply to the skin and assess.
How to Use Hydrosols
Hydrosols are enjoyed as both stand-alone products and as formulation ingredients. Here are some favorite ways to use them:
Storage and Handling
Our hydrosols contain no preservatives and since they are water-based, must be handled and stored with care. We recommend using hydrosols within 6-12 months from the date of purchase, although shelf life will vary depending on how your hydrosol is stored. Please keep hydrosols refrigerated to prolong freshness and minimize exposure to heat, light, and oxygen. Handle them with clean hands to help avoid introducing bacteria, and if transferring to a different container, use those (preferably glass) that have been thoroughly sterilized.

Chamomile, Blue Hydrosol - Organic
A comforting, green herbal, cool, somewhat sweet chamomile tea-like aroma that pleases all ages. Gentle and effective as a mist for the skin, in a compress, baby care and skin care, and as a nighttime spray.

Geranium, Rose Hydrosol - Organic
Soft, sweet herbaceous, floral aroma with a subtle rosy note. This cooling, hydrating "best friend of the skin” is wonderful as a makeup remover, topical wash, toner, after-sun spritz, and as an ingredient in facial serums and body care.
Superbly fresh, sweet herbal/floral scent, with a deep honeyed undertone. Perfect for refreshing bed linens, room environments, nurseries, and in the car or plane. Formulators use in body lotions, creams, after-shaves, gels, cleansers, shampoo, after-sun care, and more.
Made with fresh orange blossoms, the aroma is softly green and beautifully floral. One of the most renowned of all hydrosols as a facial refresher, hydrating tonic, after-shave, nighttime body and linen spray, and gentle perfume for sensitive individuals.
Sweet, distinctive floral, with a soft citrus highlight and a subtle, honeyed, coumarin-like undertone. Made with fresh Bulgarian roses, our producer utilizes a second distillation called cohobation to enhance stability and fragrance. Cooling and hydrating, it’s a favorite in masks, steams and baths, as a toner, to moisten skin before application of facial oils, as well as an ingredient in skin preparations of all types.
Tulsi (Holy Basil) Hydrosol - Organic
Soft, slightly green, fresh, sweet anise/licorice-like aroma. Works wonders as an environmental spray for meditation spaces and office clearing, or as an herbal, slightly spicy aftershave or skin tonic, particularly for oily or congested skin.
Warm, somewhat spicy, with delicious nuances of sun-dried raisins and wet earth, reminiscent of the scent that arises following a quenching rain shower. A treat for thirsty skin, this unique hydrosol is beneficial in masks and steams, topical washes and toners, and in after-sun care.
